Dan Fruit

It is an evergreen tree growing to a height of 12–20 m. The fruit is a round to oval drupe, borne in a loose pendant cluster of 10–20 together. The soft smooth skin is purplish colour. The fruit flesh is translucent, very pale purplish, with a sweet, mildly acidic flavor very reminiscent of grapes. Dan can be considered as highly underutilized fruit in Sri Lanka. Therefore there is little information available on this fruit. But the fruit may rich in many polyphenol compounds including anthocyanin, this fruit could be a best treatment for prevention of cancers and cardiovascular diseases.
