Vitamin D ( Cholecaliciferol)

Functions:

  • Needed for calcium and phosphorus adsorption , bone and teeth formation, nerve and muscle activity

Deficiency:

  • Weak de-formed bones, rickets in children, loss of Ca from bones, Osteoporosis in adults

Recommended Requirement 

  • 5 micro grams
  • High intake can cause abnormal bone growth, nausea, diarrhea, irritability, deposition of Ca in organs, mental retardation in children

Sources:

  • Egg yolk, fatty fish, fortified milk, also made in skin when exposed to sunlight
